I spent some time recently happily researching maps while designing a world map for a film. Although this wonderful portable globe really had nothing to do with the map I was drawing, I spotted it and thought it was brilliant. I think it's an amazing object. It was printed in London in 1852, and is in the vast David Rumsey Historical Map Collection. I could very easily loose a few days rummaging through his collection...
